Mabelvale Magnet Middle School
Mabelvale opened in 1952, and became part of the Little Rock School District in 1987. Mabelvale has a closed campus which includes 42 classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, and football/soccer field. The school has a well-maintained campus with six new classrooms, newly remodeled facilities and entrances. Over 50 faculty members are available to provide high quality educational programs that enable each student to achieve his or her highest potential.
Mabelvale Magnet Middle School is scheduled on an A-B block system. Each student takes four ninety-minute classes on alternate days. Most students like the block; they have time to understand assignments before taking them home, time to review before tests, and more time for homework and projects.
Mabelvale is one of four middle schools in Arkansas chosen to pilot "Great Expectations of Arkansas," a character-education based program for youth. Students participate in this highly-respected program that models respect, responsibility, honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, caring, character and citizenship.
Our teachers embrace the concept that children are more involved in learning when there is active participation. Mabelvale Magnet has initiated the use of "student-led" conferences, in which the student explains his/her work, projects, and grades to his/her parents at Parent Conferences. The teacher’s role shifts from source of information to facilitator. These conferences have been greeted with great enthusiasm and student pride.
